Reverse! Reverse! Reverse happy hour that is!!!!!! Okay I am not a big sushi lover so when my friends kept raving about this place I kept blowing them off...My mistake! Last weekend, I decided to not be a scrooge and check it out..Immediately, I was drawn to the location--the aesthetics are all working in favor of the cool vibes circulating within and outside of this space. After I learned that happy hour was only valid in certain areas of the restaurant like the bar and patio I began to slowly pout once again. Seriously, I had a long week and was in an urgent need of a drink. After about 30 minutes we were able to snag a table outdoors. Not withstanding we had to be firm about our position in line because there was no hostess making sure who was first...I am positive this can be a disaster some nights. Once I learned of the drink specials I ordered a raspberry margarita. It was delicious--writing about it--I'm craving another round! After two of those, I felt as if I should try out something on the menu. I almost tried to voodoo roll but I heard it was way too spicy. I love spicy food but as a sushi part-time-part-time fan I didn't want to be turned all the way off before I began to explore sushi again. So I opted out for something typical American like the Pepperoni flat-bread. Less than 8-10 minutes later, my waiter brought me my flat-bread and I was amazed at the portion sizes. Overall, the flat-bread was tasty but typical. Next time..did you notice I said next time? YES, next time I will be more adventurous and explore this menu. I am glad I tried this place. My friends from Chicago are used to these places but at least I'll be able to show them a good southern time by bringing them here...

Kona has an awesome Happy Hour menu for both drinks and food items. But what really sets them apart from other Perkins Rowe restaurants is the smiles on the faces of the staff. Great place to hang out after work!

Let's break this down: Food: The menu is largely focused on seafood and sushi. I ordered some sushi as an appetizer and Wal Mart sells better sushi. Sorry guys who made it. You were really nice, I just think you need to order higher quality ingredients. I really wanted steak, but they only had 2 steak related options. One of them was some pineapple terriyaki thing that the waitress was trying to sell me on. In my opinion, steak should be savory, not sweet. Anyway, after the sushi came and was not so good, I doubted spending $30 on a sugared up piece of meat. Also, there was a very disappointing beer selection. I also got the pear-brie flatbread. It was good albeit dry. Atmosphere: Felt like I was eating inside an abercrombie and fitch. They played that kind of dance music that maybe I'm just too old for. The ambiance seemed as fake as the coral in the tank. Service: Considering how dead the restaurant was, it was a bit inattentive. The waitress seemed more interested in giving me her opinions about everything that what I really wanted to order. But, she was nice and I still tipped 20%.

Almost always pleasantly surprised every time I try something new. Today it was the clam chowder - had lots of fresh crispy carrots and big hunks of clam and good flavor. Tacos were underwhelming; fried rice was full of interesting stuff and tasty. My friend got her favorite, seared ahi w baby bok choi which does get points for presentation. And the tuna was flavorful and well seared. I don't really get her excitement over the place but must admit that I always enjoy it. And the fish tank :)

Made reservations for 6 pm and was shown directly to a booth with no wait. We ordered the macadamia nut chicken and sea bass. Both dishes tasted amazing. They were not skimpy with the portions. The mojito was sweet and my wife loved it. At $9.50 a piece it could have gotten pricey quick if she would have ordered a few of those. Kirin Ichiban was on draft, nice and cold. Overall a very pleasant dining experience.

My favorite hot spot on Fridays & Sundays. They have the best happy hour in Baton Rouge. I can't think of anywhere I can go in BR and get drinks, pizza, lettuce wraps and pot stickers for under thirty bucks! If you haven't tried Kona's happy hour then you are missing the hottest Happy Hour spot. You can thank me later.

This place is really awesome. Yesterday I found out that there is a two fer $9.95 lunch special from 11-2 M-F. You can choose from salads, chicken chili (which is awesome), burger, club sandwich, sushi, sushi rolls, and more. I ordered the chicken chili and the club sandwich. It was enough food for lunch and I even brought home 1/2 the sandwich. Be sure to check it out!!!

Honestly I think this place is alright (3 stars) but never really surpasses mediocrity. It's pricey just because they have SO many options and is an "upscale" atmosphere. The downfall in my opinion is that the food suffers from trying to accommodate so many different menu items. When there's 1000 things to choose from (kinda like how Cheesecake Factory's menu is a small book), you know they can't all be good. As some other people have said, the service can be slow but the employees have always been really nice. It's probably best to go during happy hour to get the most for your money and just have a bite to eat and a drink.

This is a middle of the road type of restaurants IMO. This location has potential but there's a lot of construction going on there (5/24/2014) from unfinished projections around the entire Perkins Rowe area. Parking can be a pain if you don't want to walk from the parking garage. The service is great and the food is kind of bla. It's not bad but it's not good either. Personally, if I'm in the area again I wouldn't pick this restaurant. Not because it's bad but more some because it's not great. I hope that helps....

I will preface this review by noting that I have been to Kona Grill one million times, and I have never been inside the actual restaurant. I have literally only been to happy hour because it's just that good. According to the Kona website, here's their bar happy hours*: Mon - Fri 3pm - 7pm Mon - Thurs 9pm - 11pm (Reverse happy hour, woohoo!) Fri - Sat 10pm - 12am (Reverse happy hour on Fridays and Saturdays?! Unheard of!) Sat 1pm - 5pm PLUS last time I went, I found out they have all day HH on Sunday! Sunday Funday, anyone? *Yes, you must sit in the bar. This includes the lovely outdoor patio at my KG, which is kind of awesome with super nice weather. If you are under 21, I think you can still take advantage of HH -- this is based on witnessing some kiddos getting drunk, I mean, eating dessert with their parents in the bar area. So what's the deal? Half price some appetizers, some appetizers discounted for $6, and some pretty inexpensive drink specials. There's a margarita for like $4, and the cosmos, beer, etc. are cheaper than usual. My favorite? The crab crunch roll (half off makes it around $3). I also love the margherita and pesto flatbreads -- sans capers, blech! -- (around $5) and pot stickers (around $5). Unfortunately, the avocado eggroll (around $5) left me disappointed.

Hello??????? Went in for lunch today. We choose to sit at sushi bar. Hostess told us someone would be over "right away". We sat and sat, waited and waited....the sushi chef looked at us mournfully and said he'd go look for someone to help us. Still nothing...... We got up to leave, a guy who seemed like the manager was at the door. We told him we were leaving because we had gotten no service. He looked at us, again, mournfully.... GOOD LUCK! Our very large group is here in Baton Rouge for next 6 months and we love sushi bars. Too bad you won't be seeing us again.

Big fans... Our favorite time is Sunday after church sitting on the patio for Happy Hour. The staff is very pleasant, and provide great customer service. Don't be surprised if one of the managers come to chat with you at your table. My favorite starter is the Avocado Egg rolls. You can't go wrong with the sushi, salads or whatever your heart desires on the Happy Hour Menu. Bring your friends and share the wonderful atmosphere.

Overall, definitely worth it for a happy hour treat and/or meal. I took a friend to Kona Grill because I know that they have a really nice happy hour. I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that they do happy hour all day on Sundays. So, even though it was prime dinner time on a Sunday, I still managed to get a lot of good food for a really reasonable price. I ordered a margarita, the sliders, a Bama Roll, and a creme brulee with a nice tip for $30. Honestly, while I enjoyed it, I really can't give them better than 3 stars. My water came to me with most of the ice already melted, and my waitress , while nice, wasn't very attentive. I enjoyed the sliders (they were almost the size of actual hamburgers) -- I really wish they used something other than iceberg lettuce on them though. My Bama Roll was definitely enjoyable, with just the right amount of spice and it was visually appealing as well. Creme Brulee is one of my favorite desserts, so I got it. It was a very strange dessert. It was definitely big enough to share, but the temperature was weird. The custard was warm in some parts. I think they must use a broiler to caramelize the sugar because that is the only thing that really explains how the sides of the custard were kind of warm. I am sure I will be back to enjoy the good deals and nice view from the patio.

I came here on a Saturday night. No waiting, walked right in. Great atmosphere, not too loud. Beautiful decor. My waitress was great, very patient. I ordered a drink that I didn't like and she exchanged it with no problems. My food was amazing. Macadamia chicken is heaven, I was mad I couldn't finish it all. I've been to Kona Grill twice, and there's nothing I've tried that I really actually love. I mean it's not bad, but it's not super good either. The food here will satisfy your hunger, but the meal may be forgettable. Though I must admit they have a fabulous happy hour. My sisters and I ordered a bunch of dishes during their happy hour and the bill only came out to around 30 bucks! And we still had leftovers! We got the calamari, Atlantic Roll, BBQ Chicken pizza, sweet and sour shrimp, and avocado eggrolls. My favorites were the pizza and the avocado eggrolls. Everything else was just kinda "meh". The pizza had a good spice to it; I really like the sauce, but I do prefer CPK's pizza over Kona's. The sauce that came with the eggrolls were really good! I was surprised I liked it. As for the service, it took a little while for the food to actually come out. Good thing it was a nice day outside. I do really like the decor and environment though; very modern and contemporary. As for the overall experience, I won't be dying to come back here, but I wouldn't complain about it either. It's one of those places that are in limbo for me.

I am currently sitting at the bar for happy hour. I walked in, sat myself, and was helped within minutes. The beer came quickly and the sushi as well. The servers are quick and friendly, as so are the sushi chefs. The happy hour has some great deals. I got the Wave which was light and fresh while at the same time having a nice crunch. The potstickers were great as well. I will probably dine her frequently since I live next to it.

Came with my boyfriend on a Sunday afternoon/evening for happy hour and to watch the beginning of the LSU baseball game. We were seated immediately and our waiter (Kellis) was very friendly! We told him we were both vegetarians and he told us that there was a vegan/veg/gluten free menu available. However, we decided to order some drinks and an appetizer instead. I got happy hour margaritas (4.25) and my boyfriend got bud light (3.25) . We also got the roasted corn + goat cheese flatbread which was $6 on the happy hour menu. It was delicious-- pesto, roasted corn, goat cheese, and capers. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive and we had such a great experience. We'd actually been on a run of bad customer service at just about every restaurant we've been to lately and our streak was broken at Kona Grill! Thanks for the great service, tasty drinks, and great food. Can't wait to come back for that vegetarian menu!

I've been eating here for a number of years. It's probably my fave in the trendy area of Perkins Rowe. I usually order edamame, crunchy rolls and a glass of malbec. Recently my bf and I discovered the lettuce wraps and that's now my new favorite. This place is just cool. Bathrooms are cool, fish tank is cool, outdoor seating with a fireplace going in the winter. Great place to go if you want to see a movie afterwards which it right across the cobble stone street. I love this whole area. All they need is a hotel in walking distance and you never have to get back in your car.

Set in the trendy Perkins Row along with a bunch of stores, restaurants, movie theatre, condos, and whatever else there is, is The Kona Grill. From what I gather, Kona Grill is a chain but it seems to be a good chain. They primarily serve sushi but have a wide range of other things like flatbread pizzas, sandwhiches, and more outlandish entrees to tickle your fancy. The place is gorgeous with outdoor seating that has a fireplace for the winter months and super cool bathrooms.....if you plan on spending a lot of time in there. The food is pretty good too. I had the lettuce wraps that are really good and some sort of raw tuna that is also pretty good. I'm not the biggest sushi fan so I can't really comment to much on that end. I may need to try their more complex entrees and then I may bump them up to 4 stars.

Good prices on reverse happy hour, although I can tell they really skimp on the booze. I have gave Kona one too many chances. Who serves cold, RAW sushi on a hot plate?! That was my main concern. The calamari was edible, but batter very mushy. I ordered ceviche one and 1) it wasn't real ceviche and 2) it was extremely BLAND. The service was the slowest i have EVER experienced in my life, and very neglectful as well. I guess it's good for the servers that they add an automatic gratuity, because I honestly would not have left anything for them.

I love the pricing on their happy hour and the margaritas will get you buzzed! The Twin Mini Cheeseburgers with a side of fries are well priced at 6$! The patty is flavorful and the buns are toasted on the grill with butter! Yummy. The calamari with extra lemon squeezed on it is delicious. So is the ahi wonton crisp. The wave and voodoo roll is mediocre. I prefer the Alantic roll with sauce of the side for half the price (3$). The tacos are fulfilling and you get to choose from chicken, fish, or steak. Don't get the fish, mines tasted uncooked last time! The BBq chicken pizza tastes better on flat bread & I didn't like the margherita pizza. Only ordered the potstickers, avocado egg roll, and chicken&shrimp lettuce wraps once (all for different reasons). They have the best mojitos but it's expensive and doesn't get you buzzed! So, do the happy hour because it's the best deal and stick with the margaritas. Your wallet and stomach will thank you!!

I'd certainly give Kona Grill 5 stars if they would not have taken my favorite meal off of the menu!(Caribbean chicken) I guess too many people may've complained about the spiciness but I know in the past that every time I ordered it, the waiter/waitress warned me of the "kick". The macadamia nut chicken is my next fav dish here. It's always good. If it were possible, I'd maybe give Kona 4.5 stars if the cocktails weren't so bland.. Overall however, still one of my favorite spots in BR to dine for lunch or dinner.

For my brothers birthday we got there early, got a table and proceeded to order a few drinks until everyone got there. The manager started immediately hassling us about the fact that we had put two tables together. Apparently this is against the policy. Which he said at least 3 times. Eh. It's okay. We started out with the avocado egg rolls - yum. I recommend these. I had to tacos (one chicken, one fish) and my lunch companion had the pick two. She also had a coke. By the time we were done, lunch for two... was at $49. ?! How did that add up so quickly? Not worth the money. So the egg roll app is delicious, and I really do like it. The taco app was ok - I didn't like the fish taco and it was just... eh. The accompanying fried rice was actually pretty tasty. Total, there was about four tacos (two tacos cut into halves), but honestly, they were wraps. Not tacos. My companion's "pick two" lunch brought her a ton of food. She got the Crab Crunch sushi and the Oriental Salad. The salad was giant! Ah! Huge. The rolls were nicely sized. Big portions (it is Baton Rouge, after all). Ok food. Nice service. The hostess was a little snotty.

Went with my sister and her husband on a Friday night. We had called ahead to put our name on waiting list, as we were going to a concert, and the lady on the phone took our name no problem. When we arrived we checked in and the young man at the desk said "oh we actually don't do call ahead seating, the wait is about 20 minutes". We lucked out and found a table in the bar right away, so it didn't end up being an issue, but I thought it was strange that they took our name if they don't actually do call ahead seating! Oh well- service was excellent, and quick, which was key because we were on a time constraint. I had the hibiscus margarita and sister had the hibiscus with prosecco (I think that's what it was) she didn't care for hers so we switched and I loved her drink! For dinner I had the grilled asparagus salad which was awesome. Alongside that I had the avacado egg roll, I could have eaten three orders. They were delicious. Again- since in a slight rush we had no time for dessert, but I will definitely be back next time I'm in town!

Kona Grill is a cool spot for Happy Hour...which happens twice a day. 3-7 and 9-close. Cheap-er beers and lots of "Ladies" drinks. Where Happy Hour really shines is that they have a ton of really cheap appetizers. My fav is the Chicken Satay (4 skewers of grilled chicken with hoisin and peanut sauce served with cole slaw= $4) and Lettuce Wraps ($4). The sushi is good with interesting combinations in their rolls, however the good ones are not on special. HOUSTON ROLL=tastiest most refreshing roll in town. Tuna, cream cheese, jalepeno wrapped in rice and soy paper. It sounds simple, but no one else makes it. I've asked other places to put it together for me, but they always get the proportions wrong. Kona's Houson Roll is always spot on. If you want more than just apps, the Miso Chilean sea bass is top notch. I go to Kona all the time and we also bring big groups often. Waitstaff is attentive and friendly. P.S. If you came during their first year and were turned off, come back. New managment and staff are 100% better. P.P.S Happy Hour specials are only in bar or on patio (which is where you want to be anyway).

Horrible experience. We came here on Mother's Day. We were told the wait would be 30-40 mins tops. We had little (tired and hungry) kids with us. We waited 40 mins very patiently. We waited 50 mins patiently. We waited an HOUR and asked about the progress of our table , we were told they were still waiting on a family to leave. No problem. We waited longer .... After watching at least 5-6 families leave. And we were the only family waiting, we asked again on the progress. The manger told us "well you are just walkins on mothers day" we have lots of reservations we have to honor. Although I fully understand that reservations have to be honored your waiting customers would appreciate at least an effort at an accurate wait time. And surely after waiting with hungry fussy kids for a solid hour we would appreciate some compassion/understanding in your managers tone. Well these "just walk-ins" walked out. We went across the way to California Pizza Kitchen and were seated promtly and received great service. Will NEVER bring my business to Kona grill again. Absolutely NO reason for it!

We came here on a Monday night for a wedding shower dinner. Service was sub-par. With a party of 8 for dinner, she rarely checked on us. We were there for Happy Hour and it was available at the time but we weren't in the bar area so we asked the waitress if we got drinks and came back to the table, would that be ok. she tells us yes. After going to get a couple drinks, bartender told us happy hour drinks/apps must be eaten/drank in the bar. She lied to us about it, so we ended up paying more for drinks. Then, food came out. One person ordered the tomato basil soup/bisque and it came out looking like a dip or maybe even grits/polenta consistency. When we asked the waitress about it, she said "oh, this is how our soup is". so awful! Then the sushi was edible. There was no real flavor and the rice was mushy. The chefs may have used too much water cooking the rice and/or mashed it too much when rolling the sushi. The cerviche was NOT even close to cerviche. The portion was so small and it had nothing in there of what a cerviche should be. We also ordered shishito peppers as an app. This was so bland we dipped it in soy sauce. I now remembered why I never came back here after the first time when they first opened. Food was not worth the money and most of it is not what its called on the menu. Only thing really good that night was the sake sangria. thats about it.
I took my dad out to eat for his birthday last june! and he's enjoy it! I recommended and the chicken macadia nut still delicous! and the dessert still soooooo good of Key Lime pie is out of the world woo hoo!!! :)

Only worth it for the Happy Hours (they have two...4-7, and again 9-close). Went for dinner once, food was mediocre. Dessert had potential (brownie with ice cream) but amazingly enough they failed at something so simple. Went for lunch on a weekday, wasn't crowded, yet it took FOREVER to get our food (workday lunches should not take an hour and a half). But I go a lot for the Happy Hours...the menu includes select drinks, sushi rolls, appetizers, and pizzas for half price (only in bar and on patio) so even if it's not a culinary delight, the budget for it will please you. I've sat through both Happy Hours before (I'm so hardcore). The late one is really nice since sometimes it's hard to make it out before 7pm.

Eh, I've been here a couple of times - once for drinks, once for dinner at happy hour. Both times I've been fairly unimpressed. When I came for drinks it was ok, but at 5 minutes until close the bar staff turned the lights aaaaaaaaaall the way up (I guess in an attempt to hurry us out the door). It was pretty rude. The second time I came in for dinner at happy hour. I ended up ordering a non-happy-hour sushi roll - the sunshine roll (spicy salmon inside, fresh salmon outside, topped with Lemon) - and happy hour pot stickers. The pot stickers were burnt on the bottom and bland on the inside, though the ponzu improved them a lot. The sushi was fresh, but the "spicy" salmon wasn't spicy at all. The cosmo I had was mediocre as well. The service both times wasn't awful, but definitely edged towards "surly." When I came for happy hour, the waitress _obviously_ was trying to ignore me until after the 7:00 cut off. Nice try. Also, this might not be the restaurant's fault, but when I sat on the patio a security guard stood RIGHT NEXT to my table the whole meal. I think he was trying to watch the bar TV, but it was creepy and uncomfortable to have him standing a foot away while I tried to eat. Anyway, I might try this place a third time when I'm in the mood for cheap sushi and drinks. We shall see.

THE FOOOD IS GREAT! The service leaves some to be desired. I was there on a date, and there appeared to be a surplus of waiters on hand; but getting someone to even come to our table was a chore. There is interior & exterior seating and we were outside with 2 other occupied tables. We sat for over 15 minutes AFTER notifying the staff we were ready to at least order a drink. Getting refills, and ordering an entree, then dessert became somewhat frustrating because of the lack of priority. The cuisine is first rate, as I said before though.

The food is mediocre at best, but what I really don't understand is the smell. The restaurant always has a very distinct and unappetizing odor to it. Walk the extra 100-500 ft to any of the other Perkins Rowe restaurants if able.

My wife and I ate there Friday Night July 1st. We were seated right away, hostess was on her "A" game. Food was great, ambiance was good, service was about a "C." I am not sure why, but this is the second time in a month we have been there, and it is as if whoever hires people, needs a little help in the hiring process. Both of our servers on both occations, were not around very often, albiet it is nice not to have a server "hovering" over you. It is still nice to have your drinks filled, and not to be looking for a waiter or waitress becasue you have been ready to order for a while. The outside seating area is cool, and has a great view, if you are not in hurry, excellent. If you have plans for the rest of the evening, be prepared to spend some time.

My husband and I went on a Sunday evening and sat on the patio. We ordered a spicy salmon roll as an appetizer and it was surprisingly the best roll I've had in baton rouge so far. I love coming here to sit out on the patio especially on a warm breezy night. Other than that the food is just ok. I ordered a grilled chicken bacon salad and the chicken wasn't cooked all the way through. The middle was still pink. It was immediately corrected and the manager even came to apologize. It happens. I'd say the patio is the best part.

This was my first time visiting Kona Grill and I was pleasantly surprised by the food and service. My only complaints are being charged for a salad that I replaced due to being presented with ceaser that tasted of fish oil. I was informed that a true ceaser dressing has sardines oil in it and I wasn't delighted to have this item on my check in the end, but it was. Other than this the house salad was really fresh and delicious as well as the avocado roll that I ordered for an appetizer. I ordered the margherita flatbread pizza which was phenomenal and the brownie with ice cream for desert and I could not complain about anything other than its massive size. I also had the angry Edamame which wasn't really all that angry maybe a tad upset but no anger; the sauce was really more tangy IMHO, but I enjoyed it and added some of the edamame to compliment the house salad. The waitress was really anticipated our every need and was really pleasant. So I would have given five stars besides the bad salad mishap; great atmosphere, great food, great service!

Sushi was very good!!! I had some type of crunch role. Dinner was mediocre to say the lease. Very bland shrimp pasta, nothing exciting about it, in fact, I left most of it on the plate. Things would've been great had the dumb waiter not spilled soy sauce all over my camel colored handbag! The patio was great, I just wish smokers would take a diving leap off of a cliff so that people with healthy lungs van enjoy eating outside in the summer.

I must have good luck with this place bc after reading the reviews I am amazed. The first time I went was for a special occasion with my girlfriend. The waiters couldn't decide who was waiting our table at first and they kept coming to take our order and we'd have to say he/she already took it.. Finally we picked one and said enough.. This is who we want to take our order LOL. That's the only con I can think of. I ordered the sea bass, she ordered the steak.. Both were perfection. We got the sweet and spicy shrimp appetizer and it was sooo good! We had martinis, they were good and strong, and the dessert was delicious but we were pretty full by then! Very expensive bc this meal cost over $100. On the flip side our second time there cost only $15! We went during happy hour and sat outside with the beautiful view of the movie theater, street shops and fountain. We both ate personal pizzas, an appetizer (potstickers) which were tastey, and drinks. When the bill came we almost fell out our chairs it was so cheap LOL! The staff was awesome too. The third time I went I took my mom and brother who are HUGE sushi fans. They absolutely loved this place and spent a large amount of money here. I highly reccomend this place despite the other reviews. Try for yourself and see.

Kona Grill is pretty all right. We've been there twice and had good sushi the first time, and then I had a pork tenderloin that was over-seasoned and Andrew had a steak that was under-seasoned, but the mashed potatoes and veggies were amazing. (Really, why did I get a tenderloin in Louisiana, maybe I was missing Iowa...) This place would probably be good for a group if everybody wanted something different. The menu is extensive - sushi, fish, steak, burgers, pizza, and more, and it all looked pretty good. The service was good both times we went, and the atmosphere is nice. So yeah, good but not great.

My girlfriend ordered a sushi roll from the "Happy Hour" menu which would end up costing around $4.00. When our ticket came, we were charged for a "Shrimp Tempura" roll instead, because my girlfriend had asked the Philadelphia be wrapped in cucumber instead of rice. I told our waiter that was unacceptable, and so then the manager made up a charge for our cucumber request and charged us accordingly. That manager has a beard, and he's chickenshit. He hid in the back of the restaurant until I finally found him, and he was forced to comply with my request of charging me the original price. He was very rude, and made me feel bad for requesting I be charged what I had agreed to pay originally. Unprofessional, the manager is a chicken shit bastard.

I'm not sure that this will help most diners choose where to eat in Baton Rouge, because we didn't eat here! We walked in asked for a table for 2, and immediately noticed the dirty, rancid, non-refrigerated bait shop smell coming from the kitchen/sushi counter. My husband noticed my "eww gross" facial expression, that I generally fail at hiding, and cancelled our request with the hostess (who BTW, was still coloring-in our 2 top table on the table layout chart.... strange). *** I gave 1 star only because I could not submit the post with 0 stars.

Good food and great outdoor seating. The ahi tuna dish is misleading, looks much bigger in the picture. The picture should be what is actually delivered but it's not. Masgo sushi was yummy a bit on the salty side. Masago is not usually salty. All in all good service and nice atmosphere. Food advertised is misleading. The avocado egg rolls seriously rocked! They were my favorite part of the mean, oh not to mention the company was the best part!

My second trip to Kona Grill was such a disappointment that I will not be going back. The restaurant had just opened when I made my first visit, so I guess the staff, food, etc. had not had enough time to become mediocre. I had previously complemented the bar at Kona Grill. On this trip, the bar service was so bad that we decided not to stay for dinner. There were at least 3 bartenders on staff and I have never received slower service. Additionally, the happy hour appetizer we ordered (sweet & spicy shrimp) was horrible. They were about the size of those miniature salad shrimp and the sauce tasted strangely similar to 1000 island dressing. You would think Perkins Rowe would be able to draw better restaurants.

Came in with the family today for a late lunch - about 3pm. Perfect happy-hour time. Had to sit either at the sushi bar, the bar area, or the outdoor patio in order to enjoy the happy-hour specials. Kids had kids meals, including grilled salmon and shrimp tempura. For apps we enjoyed pot stickers and cheese burger sliders, the latter much better than I expected for an Asian restaurant. My wife had chicken caprese sandwich and I enjoyed sushi. The food was good as always, my only deduction was for limited family indoor seating for happy hour specials. Was a bit awkward for us at a high-top table in the bar area. Service was absolutely FIVE star.

Easily the best place to go for happy hour ever! Their happy hour menu has a pretty big selection. I always get the red sangria and order lots of food. My favorites are the calamari, margherita flat bread, and the cheeseburger sliders. Sometimes I like getting the sushi rolls, which are okay but kona isn't the best place to get sushi around here. I've also tried the Gouda fondue which I think is pretty good; it also comes with these soft pretzels and they are super yum with the cheese. I've also recently tried the pig wings, which seems like a new addition to the menu. The pig wings are dressed with a hoisin type sauce; it has a nice flavor and definitely has more meat than chicken wings, but I would still choose chicken wings over pig wings. Besides happy hour, I've also had the Hawaiian steak in the restaurant, which I think was pretty good and definitely had that Hawaiian/pineapple flavor, and I love pineapples! Overall, my experience here has always been a great one. Every time I visit, a manager always stops by and asks how everything is going and the service is always on par, even if it is busy!

Quite honestly there's never a time I haven't been here for happy hour. I mean if you can't get a $3 ladies margarita then what's the point? Shamefully ANYTIME me and the girls attend we are always ashamed when our six too many appetizers arrive at the table carried by three different runners. LOL! That's pretty much how amazing the food is. You can't go wrong with the flatbread (BBQ chicken is my fav). sushi, lettuce wraps, chicken and fish tacos or the sliders just to name a few. . The new addition of the spinach dip was not a fav. It was pretty much whole spinach leaves and cheese. Not much artichokes from what I saw. And just what the hell did you guys do with the sweet and spicy shrimp?!?!?! Literally, I'm starting a petition. We used to eat all of the "styrofoam" garnish. So not fair.

Quick update. More about the HH menu. The sliders are served as 2 pretty good sized burgers (not full size, but big for sliders) and they come with fries! The tacos are also served as a larger than average portion for a Happy Hour offering. I normally go during the 3-7 HH slot, but I think there is another HH after their dinner hours. The HH menu is available all day on Sunday!

This restaurant rocks for Happy Hour. They just revamped their Happy Hour menu and it is better than ever! There should be no surprise why there is one heck of a crowd during Happy Hour for the low cost of drinks, the generous amount of food, the outside patio area on a nice day and no-smoking policy as of 2014. They keep up the cleanliness of the restaurant including their restrooms and the customer service has always been over the top, which I hope continues. The constructive criticism that I would like to mention, especially for Happy Hour, is to serve the food on dishes that are proportionally sized to the food that is being ordered. It is kind of a hassle to order a few dishes that take up most of the table! Besides that you guys are great!

Came tonight for the a glass of wine and Pad Thai which is pretty good for a chain restaurant. Could definitely use more kick but the flavor is there. There are two different happy hours...regular and reverse. Be sure to call them for those hours and keep in mind you have to be either at the bar or on the patio to get the deals. Happy hour means great drink specials from margaritas to sake and a buzzing atmosphere.

Wow! What a great experience today at Kona Grill. We unknowingly visited during their reverse happy hour (all day on Sunday!) and got incredible deals. Yummy sushi rolls, shrimp and chicken lettuce wraps, blackened fish and spicy shrimp tacos, and more. Nice size portions and great taste, but what knocked it over the top was the excellent service received by our waiter - Kellis. He was attentive, friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu. He made several recommendations and made sure our drinks were always full. The AGM also stopped by the table and checked in. We will definitely be back. I came on Monday 4/20 and spent $80 on carryout sushi. I was excited to get home and eat it but what came was absolute disappointment. I didn't even receive one of my rolls and the rest were disgusting. One roll didn't even come with any of the sauce on it like it was supposed to and the rice on the rest was soggy. I don't expect much from Kona Grill when it comes to rolls because they aren't a sushi restaurant! But the rolls were great for the price. For $6, you get two sliders and fries. They were super flavorful and more than enough for me to get full off! So that was perfect! The fondue came with soft pretzel bites and sliced Granny Smith apples. My only complaint was that the cheese got really clumpy bc it didn't stay hot. So we only had a bite or two before it was unappetizing. I also had a Cosmo. Tasted like a Cosmo should. Normal people would assume a restaurant with an outdoor patio welcomes small, well-behaved dogs who stay in your lap. Don't make the mistake of going to Kona with your furry best friends. Pets are not welcome on their patio. They don't have a sign notifying customers of their policy so you won't know until the manager comes by to ask you to leave. At least the waiter was extremely nice, hence the star. I've seen dogs in Z Gallerie and other stores in Perkins Rowe. Oh well. Off to Red Zepplin where pups are always welcome!

My husband and I went here late night after an LSU game. We've been plenty of times before, and haven't had a bad experience. Kona is a mix of American food with an Asian flair, and then... sushi. It's not something you would normally see, but it works. Service has always been good, drinks are good, food is good. If you can sit outside on the patio, that's great for the atmosphere and people watching! You can also sit at the sushi bar if you're so inclined. The bar itself is small but usually service is fast. It's close to our house so on nights when we're not feeling inspired, Kona does the trick.

Mother's Day dinner for two: We sipped on a nice red blend wine and split the calamari. I have eaten calamari at many, many restaurants so I'm pretty much an expert. The calamari at Kona is delicious. It is a large, perfectly seasoned serving of plump squid pieces. I like there to be more squid than fry so this was perfect, very meaty. We split two entrees because we couldn't decided. (See photos) Penne pasta with shrimp. Oh-EM-Gee!! This was home and heaven in a bowl. It was creamy, but not too rich. The shrimp was fantastically seared, but not overcooked. I could eat my weight in this dish. Fresh Fish option for the day was sword fish. This was something new for us to try (which is why we ordered the pasta as a backup dish) and I must say, it was balanced really well. The fish, alone, was delicious. It did not taste "fishy", which was good because mom isn't a fan of the overpowering taste of fresh fish. It seemed to be grilled with a hint of lime which was perfect. The "direction" was to pour this house salsa on top of the fish but it definitely didn't need it. The fish alone, in it's simply glory, was good enough. I think the rice was cooked with coconut but that could just be my mind drifting off to a beach side dinner fantasy in a Caribbean paradise. The side of French green beans are always a safe bet with me. This is not the first time that I have eaten them from Kona (they come with the chicken) but, as always they are delicious and I could eat a huge bowl of them if they'd let me. Lastly, the white chocolate cheesecake. I believe that this is a new option. Now, I was a little "saucy" from the bottle of wine when I ate this so it may have tasted way better to me than it will to you but, it was delicious. Cheesecake is always a great safety net, isn't it? This whole meal came out to about $90 so, not terrible. The food quality was excellent so it seemed really reasonable to me. Our waitress was also fantastic. If I remember right, I tipped $10 on the bill and mom tipped $10 in cash. Like I said, we were a little "saucy" but she deserved it. She recommended everything and was very attentive. I wish that I had her name for this review. Side note: It was my mom's first time to eat here but it wasn't MY first rodeo at Kona. I wanted to take her to a "nice" place but she didn't want to get too "dressy" so I thought Kona would be perfect for the both of us. It is moderately noisy, maybe a little more on the noisy side, but we definitely didn't have a hard time hearing each other. The only downside to this particular dinner was that there were a few little gnats flying around. Kona leaves the doors open during the day, which I like. Eating on the patio next to the bar is awesome but... with open doors in Louisiana, you get bugs. It wasn't a major issue but we did have to swat away our two little friends every ten minutes.

We have eaten here several times. The atmosphere is awesome! We love eating outside! I have enjoyed the food every time. The Pad Thai noodles and the avocado chicken sandwich were both really great! My only complaint, as with most restaurants is there is no vegetable or anything really healthy offered for kids on the kids menu so my daughter's meal consists only of a cheese pizza there because that's what she always orders. Would love more veggies offered on the sides of the kids items! Love the fish tanks though!
Food here is just so-so. I go solely for the drinks. Last time I was here, I did try the pig wings.....very good! It's like a pork hot wing......trust me---try it!!

Great late night happy hour 9pm - 12am. Enjoyed the patio seating and the food and drink happy hour menu has a great selection. Although it was interesting to be able to order sushi, fondue, flatbread pizzas, and sliders from the same menu. I guess there's something for everyone! Bad sushi :( we went here last night for dinner and ordered spicy tuna sushi. It was not good- smelt fishy. I asked our waiter about it and he said "no one else has complained as far as I know" and left the sushi at my table. I have worked at restaurants for years and know- if a customer complains you apologize and remove the dish period. Anyway he came back 10 minutes later and said "yes others have complained, must be a bad batch." Yup like I said it's bad. Annoyed.. I was sick all night with bad starch cramps. Won't be back.

"I'll tell you everything you need to know if you can just make it stop." I want to give Kona an even 2.5 stars because the food is delicious, but enduring the atmosphere is nearly psychological torture. I come here every few weeks with my SO and each time it's the same: scrumptious food and a great wait staff, but it is paired with a dimly lit room, screeching noises coming from the bar, parties seated painfully close to each other, and the constant thump of godawful dance music. I can't relax at Kona. I am on edge the entire time. Turn the lights up and the music down.

Atlantic Roll: Baked salmon, spicy aioli, cucumber, tempura flakes, and eel sauce priced at $6.75. The roll tasted fine, but the consistency and texture was similar to that of canned tuna, which was not what I was expecting. I did not seemed to taste any of the spice from the aioli in it. Lobster Mac&Cheese: Penne pasta, cheddar, gouda, parmesan, panko, and white truffle oil priced at $15.50. When I asked the waitress how big the portion size was, she stated that it comes in a very large portion. Although the portion was not as big as she described, the dish was very delicious and contained large pieces of lobster. The creaminess of the three cheese sauce worked well with the panko breadcrumb topping, giving it a nice crunchiness. It was very filling! Kona Grill has a large variety and types of food, which makes it great for large groups, especially being located right across from the movie theater. It took our table a long time to order, since none of us could decide what we wanted with all of the choices. The service was slow, even though it was not particularly crowded. This was my first time at Kona, and I was excited to be trying it after hearing many good reviews from friends. Despite my first experience not being exactly up to par, I would definitely come back with the curiosity to try other menu options.

I can't say I have been to Kona too often other than during their Happy Hour, which is a great deal. Some of the rolls are a bit pricey in my opinion during regular pricing hours. But all of the times I have been to Kona have been great. The wait staff is enthusiastic and efficient. I really like the Bama roll without the cream cheese. The pot stickers, chicken satay, and avocado rolls are also delicious. I've also had a few items that are not on the happy hour menu that are definitely worth a try. The cucumber salad is a "must order" every time I go to Kona-- sometimes I'll order two of them since it is so tart and delicious on a hot day. The jalapeno yellowtail sashimi and tuna tower are also good. If you want sushi, but don't want a ton, I suggest getting the sushi sampler. You get several pieces of sushi and a roll plus the house salad. It's easy to fill up on just that. I also have to give serious props to the Manager at Kona. I have been once or twice when there was a wait for a bar/outside table (the happy hour prices are only available in those areas) during the happy hour, which two or three tables worth of people waiting around for a table. The Manager does a fantastic job of trying to keep track of when each table came so that the tables really are "first come/first serve" and customers don't have to work out amongst themselves who was there first and who gets the next table. You don't always see that at restaurants that have that kind of system, so it is great that the Manager goes the extra mile to make sure everything is running smoothly.

My biggest complaint is the slow and forgetful service. The appetizers we ordered were all really good. We got potstickers, ahi tuna crisps, and lettuce wraps. Then came our main course...this is where the place fell off. The couple we were with ordered pad Thai and some kind of meatloaf dish. They were both disappointed. We ordered sushi. I do not recommend sushi here. It wasn't gross but it was really bland. They also have a bama roll on the menu...are they kidding? This is death valley and I'm still offended! Also how can u have a bama roll and no LSU roll? This is Louisiana right? Anyway, we ordered the red velvet for dessert. It was good. 4 people shared and there was still some left over. Our coffee we ordered with dessert never came. Overall I'd say come here for appetizers and drinks then leave...

Stopped in for lunch. There is definitely a random smell when you walk on. We ordered 3 sushi rolls and two bowls of tomato basil soup and a grilled cheese for our son. Soup arrived first, both bowls were filthy. You could see a ring that had dried around the top of one and the other had some smeared substance. The three rolls came out, they were average- however the guy who was back making them wiped his nose on the top of his hand. Pretty gross! Suggestions for Kona- get something for the kids to do while waiting such as crayons, tech toys etc, secondly run random unannounced hygiene checks on your staff and facility.

2 years ago one of the Kona Grill waitresses named Chloe didn't give me and my friends our change back and it was between $3-$5 taken from EACH of us! that's about $12 total. she totally avoided our table and the side of the room where we were giving us no chance to say anything about the missing change. we waited around for a while but nothing. so a few days later one of my friends that got their money taken as well, mother called and told the whole story and we were assured to be sent our money back and nothing ever got to us 2 years later! this wasn't the first or only time of me not getting my change back but it was the most memorable and most amount of money taken from me. I have been here many times have stopped going bc the workers try and take advantage of younger customers. anyways, id appreciate if I could get an apology or some of my money back ... 2 years later! Reverse! Reverse! Reverse happy hour that is!!!!!! Okay I am not a big sushi lover so when my friends kept raving about this place I kept blowing them off...My mistake! Last weekend, I decided to not be a scrooge and check it out..Immediately, I was drawn to the location--the aesthetics are all working in favor of the cool vibes circulating within and outside of this space. After I learned that happy hour was only valid in certain areas of the restaurant like the bar and patio I began to slowly pout once again. Seriously, I had a long week and was in an urgent need of a drink. After about 30 minutes we were able to snag a table outdoors. Not withstanding we had to be firm about our position in line because there was no hostess making sure who was first...I am positive this can be a disaster some nights. Once I learned of the drink specials I ordered a raspberry margarita. It was delicious--writing about it--I'm craving another round! After two of those, I felt as if I should try out something on the menu. I almost tried to voodoo roll but I heard it was way too spicy. I love spicy food but as a sushi part-time-part-time fan I didn't want to be turned all the way off before I began to explore sushi again. So I opted out for something typical American like the Pepperoni flat-bread. Less than 8-10 minutes later, my waiter brought me my flat-bread and I was amazed at the portion sizes. Overall, the flat-bread was tasty but typical. Next time..did you notice I said next time? YES, next time I will be more adventurous and explore this menu. I am glad I tried this place. My friends from Chicago are used to these places but at least I'll be able to show them a good southern time by bringing them here...

Kona has an awesome Happy Hour menu for both drinks and food items. But what really sets them apart from other Perkins Rowe restaurants is the smiles on the faces of the staff. Great place to hang out after work!

Definitely one of our go-to places. After four years of regular date nights and the occasional family dinner here, we've yet to be disappointed. The food is awesome, atmosphere relaxed, and prices definitely good for what you get.

Let's break this down: Food: The menu is largely focused on seafood and sushi. I ordered some sushi as an appetizer and Wal Mart sells better sushi. Sorry guys who made it. You were really nice, I just think you need to order higher quality ingredients. I really wanted steak, but they only had 2 steak related options. One of them was some pineapple terriyaki thing that the waitress was trying to sell me on. In my opinion, steak should be savory, not sweet. Anyway, after the sushi came and was not so good, I doubted spending $30 on a sugared up piece of meat. Also, there was a very disappointing beer selection. I also got the pear-brie flatbread. It was good albeit dry. Atmosphere: Felt like I was eating inside an abercrombie and fitch. They played that kind of dance music that maybe I'm just too old for. The ambiance seemed as fake as the coral in the tank. Service: Considering how dead the restaurant was, it was a bit inattentive. The waitress seemed more interested in giving me her opinions about everything that what I really wanted to order. But, she was nice and I still tipped 20%.

Almost always pleasantly surprised every time I try something new. Today it was the clam chowder - had lots of fresh crispy carrots and big hunks of clam and good flavor. Tacos were underwhelming; fried rice was full of interesting stuff and tasty. My friend got her favorite, seared ahi w baby bok choi which does get points for presentation. And the tuna was flavorful and well seared. I don't really get her excitement over the place but must admit that I always enjoy it. And the fish tank :)

Made reservations for 6 pm and was shown directly to a booth with no wait. We ordered the macadamia nut chicken and sea bass. Both dishes tasted amazing. They were not skimpy with the portions. The mojito was sweet and my wife loved it. At $9.50 a piece it could have gotten pricey quick if she would have ordered a few of those. Kirin Ichiban was on draft, nice and cold. Overall a very pleasant dining experience.

My favorite hot spot on Fridays & Sundays. They have the best happy hour in Baton Rouge. I can't think of anywhere I can go in BR and get drinks, pizza, lettuce wraps and pot stickers for under thirty bucks! If you haven't tried Kona's happy hour then you are missing the hottest Happy Hour spot. You can thank me later.

This place is really awesome. Yesterday I found out that there is a two fer $9.95 lunch special from 11-2 M-F. You can choose from salads, chicken chili (which is awesome), burger, club sandwich, sushi, sushi rolls, and more. I ordered the chicken chili and the club sandwich. It was enough food for lunch and I even brought home 1/2 the sandwich. Be sure to check it out!!!

Honestly I think this place is alright (3 stars) but never really surpasses mediocrity. It's pricey just because they have SO many options and is an "upscale" atmosphere. The downfall in my opinion is that the food suffers from trying to accommodate so many different menu items. When there's 1000 things to choose from (kinda like how Cheesecake Factory's menu is a small book), you know they can't all be good. As some other people have said, the service can be slow but the employees have always been really nice. It's probably best to go during happy hour to get the most for your money and just have a bite to eat and a drink.

This is a middle of the road type of restaurants IMO. This location has potential but there's a lot of construction going on there (5/24/2014) from unfinished projections around the entire Perkins Rowe area. Parking can be a pain if you don't want to walk from the parking garage. The service is great and the food is kind of bla. It's not bad but it's not good either. Personally, if I'm in the area again I wouldn't pick this restaurant. Not because it's bad but more some because it's not great. I hope that helps....

I will preface this review by noting that I have been to Kona Grill one million times, and I have never been inside the actual restaurant. I have literally only been to happy hour because it's just that good. According to the Kona website, here's their bar happy hours*: Mon - Fri 3pm - 7pm Mon - Thurs 9pm - 11pm (Reverse happy hour, woohoo!) Fri - Sat 10pm - 12am (Reverse happy hour on Fridays and Saturdays?! Unheard of!) Sat 1pm - 5pm PLUS last time I went, I found out they have all day HH on Sunday! Sunday Funday, anyone? *Yes, you must sit in the bar. This includes the lovely outdoor patio at my KG, which is kind of awesome with super nice weather. If you are under 21, I think you can still take advantage of HH -- this is based on witnessing some kiddos getting drunk, I mean, eating dessert with their parents in the bar area. So what's the deal? Half price some appetizers, some appetizers discounted for $6, and some pretty inexpensive drink specials. There's a margarita for like $4, and the cosmos, beer, etc. are cheaper than usual. My favorite? The crab crunch roll (half off makes it around $3). I also love the margherita and pesto flatbreads -- sans capers, blech! -- (around $5) and pot stickers (around $5). Unfortunately, the avocado eggroll (around $5) left me disappointed.

Hello??????? Went in for lunch today. We choose to sit at sushi bar. Hostess told us someone would be over "right away". We sat and sat, waited and waited....the sushi chef looked at us mournfully and said he'd go look for someone to help us. Still nothing...... We got up to leave, a guy who seemed like the manager was at the door. We told him we were leaving because we had gotten no service. He looked at us, again, mournfully.... GOOD LUCK! Our very large group is here in Baton Rouge for next 6 months and we love sushi bars. Too bad you won't be seeing us again.

Big fans... Our favorite time is Sunday after church sitting on the patio for Happy Hour. The staff is very pleasant, and provide great customer service. Don't be surprised if one of the managers come to chat with you at your table. My favorite starter is the Avocado Egg rolls. You can't go wrong with the sushi, salads or whatever your heart desires on the Happy Hour Menu. Bring your friends and share the wonderful atmosphere.

Overall, definitely worth it for a happy hour treat and/or meal. I took a friend to Kona Grill because I know that they have a really nice happy hour. I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that they do happy hour all day on Sundays. So, even though it was prime dinner time on a Sunday, I still managed to get a lot of good food for a really reasonable price. I ordered a margarita, the sliders, a Bama Roll, and a creme brulee with a nice tip for $30. Honestly, while I enjoyed it, I really can't give them better than 3 stars. My water came to me with most of the ice already melted, and my waitress , while nice, wasn't very attentive. I enjoyed the sliders (they were almost the size of actual hamburgers) -- I really wish they used something other than iceberg lettuce on them though. My Bama Roll was definitely enjoyable, with just the right amount of spice and it was visually appealing as well. Creme Brulee is one of my favorite desserts, so I got it. It was a very strange dessert. It was definitely big enough to share, but the temperature was weird. The custard was warm in some parts. I think they must use a broiler to caramelize the sugar because that is the only thing that really explains how the sides of the custard were kind of warm. I am sure I will be back to enjoy the good deals and nice view from the patio.

I came here on a Saturday night. No waiting, walked right in. Great atmosphere, not too loud. Beautiful decor. My waitress was great, very patient. I ordered a drink that I didn't like and she exchanged it with no problems. My food was amazing. Macadamia chicken is heaven, I was mad I couldn't finish it all. Tempura shrimp was probably the best I've had. I definitely have to go back to try more sushi. The butter cake was just hands down what made me go crazy over this place. Omg...

Decent but nothing too exciting. It's location in Perkins Rowe makes it super convenient to eat or drink there and then go see a movie. Happy Hour here is excellent and the patio is quite large even though it is full every day during happy hour.

This isn't a bad spot for a meal. It is a GREAT spot for a happy hour. The food specials and drink specials definitely give it four stars. The sushi is just okay. The flatbread pizza, twin burgers, lettuce wraps are all much better choices. Finally, you can't beat the half price wine on Wednesdays.

I've been to Kona Grill twice, and there's nothing I've tried that I really actually love. I mean it's not bad, but it's not super good either. The food here will satisfy your hunger, but the meal may be forgettable. Though I must admit they have a fabulous happy hour. My sisters and I ordered a bunch of dishes during their happy hour and the bill only came out to around 30 bucks! And we still had leftovers! We got the calamari, Atlantic Roll, BBQ Chicken pizza, sweet and sour shrimp, and avocado eggrolls. My favorites were the pizza and the avocado eggrolls. Everything else was just kinda "meh". The pizza had a good spice to it; I really like the sauce, but I do prefer CPK's pizza over Kona's. The sauce that came with the eggrolls were really good! I was surprised I liked it. As for the service, it took a little while for the food to actually come out. Good thing it was a nice day outside. I do really like the decor and environment though; very modern and contemporary. As for the overall experience, I won't be dying to come back here, but I wouldn't complain about it either. It's one of those places that are in limbo for me.

I am currently sitting at the bar for happy hour. I walked in, sat myself, and was helped within minutes. The beer came quickly and the sushi as well. The servers are quick and friendly, as so are the sushi chefs. The happy hour has some great deals. I got the Wave which was light and fresh while at the same time having a nice crunch. The potstickers were great as well. I will probably dine her frequently since I live next to it.

Came with my boyfriend on a Sunday afternoon/evening for happy hour and to watch the beginning of the LSU baseball game. We were seated immediately and our waiter (Kellis) was very friendly! We told him we were both vegetarians and he told us that there was a vegan/veg/gluten free menu available. However, we decided to order some drinks and an appetizer instead. I got happy hour margaritas (4.25) and my boyfriend got bud light (3.25) . We also got the roasted corn + goat cheese flatbread which was $6 on the happy hour menu. It was delicious-- pesto, roasted corn, goat cheese, and capers. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive and we had such a great experience. We'd actually been on a run of bad customer service at just about every restaurant we've been to lately and our streak was broken at Kona Grill! Thanks for the great service, tasty drinks, and great food. Can't wait to come back for that vegetarian menu!

I've been eating here for a number of years. It's probably my fave in the trendy area of Perkins Rowe. I usually order edamame, crunchy rolls and a glass of malbec. Recently my bf and I discovered the lettuce wraps and that's now my new favorite. This place is just cool. Bathrooms are cool, fish tank is cool, outdoor seating with a fireplace going in the winter. Great place to go if you want to see a movie afterwards which it right across the cobble stone street. I love this whole area. All they need is a hotel in walking distance and you never have to get back in your car.

Set in the trendy Perkins Row along with a bunch of stores, restaurants, movie theatre, condos, and whatever else there is, is The Kona Grill. From what I gather, Kona Grill is a chain but it seems to be a good chain. They primarily serve sushi but have a wide range of other things like flatbread pizzas, sandwhiches, and more outlandish entrees to tickle your fancy. The place is gorgeous with outdoor seating that has a fireplace for the winter months and super cool bathrooms.....if you plan on spending a lot of time in there. The food is pretty good too. I had the lettuce wraps that are really good and some sort of raw tuna that is also pretty good. I'm not the biggest sushi fan so I can't really comment to much on that end. I may need to try their more complex entrees and then I may bump them up to 4 stars.

Good prices on reverse happy hour, although I can tell they really skimp on the booze. I have gave Kona one too many chances. Who serves cold, RAW sushi on a hot plate?! That was my main concern. The calamari was edible, but batter very mushy. I ordered ceviche one and 1) it wasn't real ceviche and 2) it was extremely BLAND. The service was the slowest i have EVER experienced in my life, and very neglectful as well. I guess it's good for the servers that they add an automatic gratuity, because I honestly would not have left anything for them.

I love the pricing on their happy hour and the margaritas will get you buzzed! The Twin Mini Cheeseburgers with a side of fries are well priced at 6$! The patty is flavorful and the buns are toasted on the grill with butter! Yummy. The calamari with extra lemon squeezed on it is delicious. So is the ahi wonton crisp. The wave and voodoo roll is mediocre. I prefer the Alantic roll with sauce of the side for half the price (3$). The tacos are fulfilling and you get to choose from chicken, fish, or steak. Don't get the fish, mines tasted uncooked last time! The BBq chicken pizza tastes better on flat bread & I didn't like the margherita pizza. Only ordered the potstickers, avocado egg roll, and chicken&shrimp lettuce wraps once (all for different reasons). They have the best mojitos but it's expensive and doesn't get you buzzed! So, do the happy hour because it's the best deal and stick with the margaritas. Your wallet and stomach will thank you!!

I'd certainly give Kona Grill 5 stars if they would not have taken my favorite meal off of the menu!(Caribbean chicken) I guess too many people may've complained about the spiciness but I know in the past that every time I ordered it, the waiter/waitress warned me of the "kick". The macadamia nut chicken is my next fav dish here. It's always good. If it were possible, I'd maybe give Kona 4.5 stars if the cocktails weren't so bland.. Overall however, still one of my favorite spots in BR to dine for lunch or dinner.

For my brothers birthday we got there early, got a table and proceeded to order a few drinks until everyone got there. The manager started immediately hassling us about the fact that we had put two tables together. Apparently this is against the policy. Which he said at least 3 times. I was just thoroughly amazed at how rude he was. Food is not bad, but only appropriately priced during happy hour. Wait staff was friendlier than the manager, thank goodness.

Eh. It's okay. We started out with the avocado egg rolls - yum. I recommend these. I had to tacos (one chicken, one fish) and my lunch companion had the pick two. She also had a coke. By the time we were done, lunch for two... was at $49. ?! How did that add up so quickly? Not worth the money. So the egg roll app is delicious, and I really do like it. The taco app was ok - I didn't like the fish taco and it was just... eh. The accompanying fried rice was actually pretty tasty. Total, there was about four tacos (two tacos cut into halves), but honestly, they were wraps. Not tacos. My companion's "pick two" lunch brought her a ton of food. She got the Crab Crunch sushi and the Oriental Salad. The salad was giant! Ah! Huge. The rolls were nicely sized. Big portions (it is Baton Rouge, after all). Ok food. Nice service. The hostess was a little snotty.

Went with my sister and her husband on a Friday night. We had called ahead to put our name on waiting list, as we were going to a concert, and the lady on the phone took our name no problem. When we arrived we checked in and the young man at the desk said "oh we actually don't do call ahead seating, the wait is about 20 minutes". We lucked out and found a table in the bar right away, so it didn't end up being an issue, but I thought it was strange that they took our name if they don't actually do call ahead seating! Oh well- service was excellent, and quick, which was key because we were on a time constraint. I had the hibiscus margarita and sister had the hibiscus with prosecco (I think that's what it was) she didn't care for hers so we switched and I loved her drink! For dinner I had the grilled asparagus salad which was awesome. Alongside that I had the avacado egg roll, I could have eaten three orders. They were delicious. Again- since in a slight rush we had no time for dessert, but I will definitely be back next time I'm in town!

Kona Grill is a cool spot for Happy Hour...which happens twice a day. 3-7 and 9-close. Cheap-er beers and lots of "Ladies" drinks. Where Happy Hour really shines is that they have a ton of really cheap appetizers. My fav is the Chicken Satay (4 skewers of grilled chicken with hoisin and peanut sauce served with cole slaw= $4) and Lettuce Wraps ($4). The sushi is good with interesting combinations in their rolls, however the good ones are not on special. HOUSTON ROLL=tastiest most refreshing roll in town. Tuna, cream cheese, jalepeno wrapped in rice and soy paper. It sounds simple, but no one else makes it. I've asked other places to put it together for me, but they always get the proportions wrong. Kona's Houson Roll is always spot on. If you want more than just apps, the Miso Chilean sea bass is top notch. I go to Kona all the time and we also bring big groups often. Waitstaff is attentive and friendly. P.S. If you came during their first year and were turned off, come back. New managment and staff are 100% better. P.P.S Happy Hour specials are only in bar or on patio (which is where you want to be anyway).

Horrible experience. We came here on Mother's Day. We were told the wait would be 30-40 mins tops. We had little (tired and hungry) kids with us. We waited 40 mins very patiently. We waited 50 mins patiently. We waited an HOUR and asked about the progress of our table , we were told they were still waiting on a family to leave. No problem. We waited longer .... After watching at least 5-6 families leave. And we were the only family waiting, we asked again on the progress. The manger told us "well you are just walkins on mothers day" we have lots of reservations we have to honor. Although I fully understand that reservations have to be honored your waiting customers would appreciate at least an effort at an accurate wait time. And surely after waiting with hungry fussy kids for a solid hour we would appreciate some compassion/understanding in your managers tone. Well these "just walk-ins" walked out. We went across the way to California Pizza Kitchen and were seated promtly and received great service. Will NEVER bring my business to Kona grill again. Absolutely NO reason for it!

Yessssssss Mike, the bartender, is wonderful. He recommended a frozen sugar rimmed house margarita with mango liqueur/syrup and I must admit IT WAS SUPERB!!!! Their happy hour prices are a pretty good deal considering the pretty view if you sit outside. I would never pay full price. The quality of food is not up to par. The margs are watered down, the house wine tastes like it came from a box, and the cosmo has equally bad. The entrees are nothing to brag about either. The only thing this place has going for it is the location in Perkins Rowe.

We came here on a Monday night for a wedding shower dinner. Service was sub-par. With a party of 8 for dinner, she rarely checked on us. We were there for Happy Hour and it was available at the time but we weren't in the bar area so we asked the waitress if we got drinks and came back to the table, would that be ok. she tells us yes. After going to get a couple drinks, bartender told us happy hour drinks/apps must be eaten/drank in the bar. She lied to us about it, so we ended up paying more for drinks. Then, food came out. One person ordered the tomato basil soup/bisque and it came out looking like a dip or maybe even grits/polenta consistency. When we asked the waitress about it, she said "oh, this is how our soup is". so awful! Then the sushi was edible. There was no real flavor and the rice was mushy. The chefs may have used too much water cooking the rice and/or mashed it too much when rolling the sushi. The cerviche was NOT even close to cerviche. The portion was so small and it had nothing in there of what a cerviche should be. We also ordered shishito peppers as an app. This was so bland we dipped it in soy sauce. I now remembered why I never came back here after the first time when they first opened. Food was not worth the money and most of it is not what its called on the menu. Only thing really good that night was the sake sangria. thats about it.

I had the Kona Filet cooked medium. The steak was the correct temp and it tasted fine. It was a little overpriced at $30, in my opinion, but it was still good. The sautéed mushrooms didn't have much flavor, but the green bean and the potatoes were fine. Britt had the chopped salad with chicken and the chicken came out raw and pink. The waiter took care of it quickly and professionally. The manager came out a few minutes later and apologized very nicely. Honestly, the way this was handled was the most refreshing part of the evening. Actually, before I forget, we had a spicy salmon roll as an appetizer an it was the best sushi I've had in Baton Rouge. Surprising. Didn't get much of the spicy, but the fish was fresh and there was plenty of sesame seeds too. All in all, not huge on the price or the food.

Only worth it for the Happy Hours (they have two...4-7, and again 9-close). Went for dinner once, food was mediocre. Dessert had potential (brownie with ice cream) but amazingly enough they failed at something so simple. Went for lunch on a weekday, wasn't crowded, yet it took FOREVER to get our food (workday lunches should not take an hour and a half). But I go a lot for the Happy Hours...the menu includes select drinks, sushi rolls, appetizers, and pizzas for half price (only in bar and on patio) so even if it's not a culinary delight, the budget for it will please you. I've sat through both Happy Hours before (I'm so hardcore). The late one is really nice since sometimes it's hard to make it out before 7pm.

Eh, I've been here a couple of times - once for drinks, once for dinner at happy hour. Both times I've been fairly unimpressed. When I came for drinks it was ok, but at 5 minutes until close the bar staff turned the lights aaaaaaaaaall the way up (I guess in an attempt to hurry us out the door). It was pretty rude. The second time I came in for dinner at happy hour. I ended up ordering a non-happy-hour sushi roll - the sunshine roll (spicy salmon inside, fresh salmon outside, topped with Lemon) - and happy hour pot stickers. The pot stickers were burnt on the bottom and bland on the inside, though the ponzu improved them a lot. The sushi was fresh, but the "spicy" salmon wasn't spicy at all. The cosmo I had was mediocre as well. The service both times wasn't awful, but definitely edged towards "surly." When I came for happy hour, the waitress _obviously_ was trying to ignore me until after the 7:00 cut off. Nice try. Also, this might not be the restaurant's fault, but when I sat on the patio a security guard stood RIGHT NEXT to my table the whole meal. I think he was trying to watch the bar TV, but it was creepy and uncomfortable to have him standing a foot away while I tried to eat. Anyway, I might try this place a third time when I'm in the mood for cheap sushi and drinks. We shall see.

THE FOOOD IS GREAT! The service leaves some to be desired. I was there on a date, and there appeared to be a surplus of waiters on hand; but getting someone to even come to our table was a chore. There is interior & exterior seating and we were outside with 2 other occupied tables. We sat for over 15 minutes AFTER notifying the staff we were ready to at least order a drink. Getting refills, and ordering an entree, then dessert became somewhat frustrating because of the lack of priority. The cuisine is first rate, as I said before though.

My wife and I ate there Friday Night July 1st. We were seated right away, hostess was on her "A" game. Food was great, ambiance was good, service was about a "C." I am not sure why, but this is the second time in a month we have been there, and it is as if whoever hires people, needs a little help in the hiring process. Both of our servers on both occations, were not around very often, albiet it is nice not to have a server "hovering" over you. It is still nice to have your drinks filled, and not to be looking for a waiter or waitress becasue you have been ready to order for a while. The outside seating area is cool, and has a great view, if you are not in hurry, excellent. If you have plans for the rest of the evening, be prepared to spend some time.

My husband and I went on a Sunday evening and sat on the patio. We ordered a spicy salmon roll as an appetizer and it was surprisingly the best roll I've had in baton rouge so far. I love coming here to sit out on the patio especially on a warm breezy night. Other than that the food is just ok. I ordered a grilled chicken bacon salad and the chicken wasn't cooked all the way through. The middle was still pink. It was immediately corrected and the manager even came to apologize. It happens. I'd say the patio is the best part.

This was my first time visiting Kona Grill and I was pleasantly surprised by the food and service. My only complaints are being charged for a salad that I replaced due to being presented with ceaser that tasted of fish oil. I was informed that a true ceaser dressing has sardines oil in it and I wasn't delighted to have this item on my check in the end, but it was. Other than this the house salad was really fresh and delicious as well as the avocado roll that I ordered for an appetizer. I ordered the margherita flatbread pizza which was phenomenal and the brownie with ice cream for desert and I could not complain about anything other than its massive size. I also had the angry Edamame which wasn't really all that angry maybe a tad upset but no anger; the sauce was really more tangy IMHO, but I enjoyed it and added some of the edamame to compliment the house salad. The waitress was really anticipated our every need and was really pleasant. So I would have given five stars besides the bad salad mishap; great atmosphere, great food, great service!

Sushi was very good!!! I had some type of crunch role. Dinner was mediocre to say the lease. Very bland shrimp pasta, nothing exciting about it, in fact, I left most of it on the plate. Things would've been great had the dumb waiter not spilled soy sauce all over my camel colored handbag! The patio was great, I just wish smokers would take a diving leap off of a cliff so that people with healthy lungs van enjoy eating outside in the summer.

I must have good luck with this place bc after reading the reviews I am amazed. The first time I went was for a special occasion with my girlfriend. The waiters couldn't decide who was waiting our table at first and they kept coming to take our order and we'd have to say he/she already took it.. Finally we picked one and said enough.. This is who we want to take our order LOL. That's the only con I can think of. I ordered the sea bass, she ordered the steak.. Both were perfection. We got the sweet and spicy shrimp appetizer and it was sooo good! We had martinis, they were good and strong, and the dessert was delicious but we were pretty full by then! Very expensive bc this meal cost over $100. On the flip side our second time there cost only $15! We went during happy hour and sat outside with the beautiful view of the movie theater, street shops and fountain. We both ate personal pizzas, an appetizer (potstickers) which were tastey, and drinks. When the bill came we almost fell out our chairs it was so cheap LOL! The staff was awesome too. The third time I went I took my mom and brother who are HUGE sushi fans. They absolutely loved this place and spent a large amount of money here. I highly reccomend this place despite the other reviews. Try for yourself and see.

Kona Grill is pretty all right. We've been there twice and had good sushi the first time, and then I had a pork tenderloin that was over-seasoned and Andrew had a steak that was under-seasoned, but the mashed potatoes and veggies were amazing. (Really, why did I get a tenderloin in Louisiana, maybe I was missing Iowa...) This place would probably be good for a group if everybody wanted something different. The menu is extensive - sushi, fish, steak, burgers, pizza, and more, and it all looked pretty good. The service was good both times we went, and the atmosphere is nice. So yeah, good but not great.

My girlfriend ordered a sushi roll from the "Happy Hour" menu which would end up costing around $4.00. When our ticket came, we were charged for a "Shrimp Tempura" roll instead, because my girlfriend had asked the Philadelphia be wrapped in cucumber instead of rice. I told our waiter that was unacceptable, and so then the manager made up a charge for our cucumber request and charged us accordingly. That manager has a beard, and he's chickenshit. He hid in the back of the restaurant until I finally found him, and he was forced to comply with my request of charging me the original price. He was very rude, and made me feel bad for requesting I be charged what I had agreed to pay originally. Unprofessional, the manager is a chicken shit bastard.

We walked in asked for a table for 2, and immediately noticed the dirty, rancid, non-refrigerated bait shop smell coming from the kitchen/sushi counter. My husband noticed my "eww gross" facial expression, that I generally fail at hiding, and cancelled our request with the hostess (who BTW, was still coloring-in our 2 top table on the table layout chart.... strange). *** I gave 1 star only because I could not submit the post with 0 stars.

Good food and great outdoor seating. The ahi tuna dish is misleading, looks much bigger in the picture. The picture should be what is actually delivered but it's not. Masgo sushi was yummy a bit on the salty side. Masago is not usually salty. All in all good service and nice atmosphere. Food advertised is misleading. The avocado egg rolls seriously rocked! They were my favorite part of the mean, oh not to mention the company was the best part!

My second trip to Kona Grill was such a disappointment that I will not be going back. The restaurant had just opened when I made my first visit, so I guess the staff, food, etc. had not had enough time to become mediocre. I had previously complemented the bar at Kona Grill. On this trip, the bar service was so bad that we decided not to stay for dinner. There were at least 3 bartenders on staff and I have never received slower service. Additionally, the happy hour appetizer we ordered (sweet & spicy shrimp) was horrible. They were about the size of those miniature salad shrimp and the sauce tasted strangely similar to 1000 island dressing. You would think Perkins Rowe would be able to draw better restaurants.

Came in with the family today for a late lunch - about 3pm. Perfect happy-hour time. Had to sit either at the sushi bar, the bar area, or the outdoor patio in order to enjoy the happy-hour specials. Kids had kids meals, including grilled salmon and shrimp tempura. For apps we enjoyed pot stickers and cheese burger sliders, the latter much better than I expected for an Asian restaurant. My wife had chicken caprese sandwich and I enjoyed sushi. The food was good as always, my only deduction was for limited family indoor seating for happy hour specials. Was a bit awkward for us at a high-top table in the bar area. Service was absolutely FIVE star.

Easily the best place to go for happy hour ever! Their happy hour menu has a pretty big selection. I always get the red sangria and order lots of food. My favorites are the calamari, margherita flat bread, and the cheeseburger sliders. Sometimes I like getting the sushi rolls, which are okay but kona isn't the best place to get sushi around here. I've also tried the Gouda fondue which I think is pretty good; it also comes with these soft pretzels and they are super yum with the cheese. I've also recently tried the pig wings, which seems like a new addition to the menu. The pig wings are dressed with a hoisin type sauce; it has a nice flavor and definitely has more meat than chicken wings, but I would still choose chicken wings over pig wings. Besides happy hour, I've also had the Hawaiian steak in the restaurant, which I think was pretty good and definitely had that Hawaiian/pineapple flavor, and I love pineapples! Overall, my experience here has always been a great one. Every time I visit, a manager always stops by and asks how everything is going and the service is always on par, even if it is busy!

Quite honestly there's never a time I haven't been here for happy hour. I mean if you can't get a $3 ladies margarita then what's the point? Shamefully ANYTIME me and the girls attend we are always ashamed when our six too many appetizers arrive at the table carried by three different runners. LOL! That's pretty much how amazing the food is. You can't go wrong with the flatbread (BBQ chicken is my fav). sushi, lettuce wraps, chicken and fish tacos or the sliders just to name a few. . The new addition of the spinach dip was not a fav. It was pretty much whole spinach leaves and cheese. Not much artichokes from what I saw. And just what the hell did you guys do with the sweet and spicy shrimp?!?!?! Literally, I'm starting a petition. We used to eat all of the "styrofoam" garnish. So not fair.

Quick update. More about the HH menu. The sliders are served as 2 pretty good sized burgers (not full size, but big for sliders) and they come with fries! The tacos are also served as a larger than average portion for a Happy Hour offering. I normally go during the 3-7 HH slot, but I think there is another HH after their dinner hours. The HH menu is available all day on Sunday!

This restaurant rocks for Happy Hour. They just revamped their Happy Hour menu and it is better than ever! There should be no surprise why there is one heck of a crowd during Happy Hour for the low cost of drinks, the generous amount of food, the outside patio area on a nice day and no-smoking policy as of 2014. They keep up the cleanliness of the restaurant including their restrooms and the customer service has always been over the top, which I hope continues. The constructive criticism that I would like to mention, especially for Happy Hour, is to serve the food on dishes that are proportionally sized to the food that is being ordered. It is kind of a hassle to order a few dishes that take up most of the table! Besides that you guys are great!

Happy hour is the way to go at this restaurant. We ordered a wide variety of food and everything was pretty good. My favorite was the corn and goat cheese flatbread. The sushi was ok. The other items ordered included sliders, bulgogi tacos, and the pretzels with cheese sauce. We had no complaints and our server was great. He was very attentive. I also loved the big fish tanks and the courtyard.

Came tonight for the a glass of wine and Pad Thai which is pretty good for a chain restaurant. Could definitely use more kick but the flavor is there. There are two different happy hours...regular and reverse. Be sure to call them for those hours and keep in mind you have to be either at the bar or on the patio to get the deals. Happy hour means great drink specials from margaritas to sake and a buzzing atmosphere.

Wow! What a great experience today at Kona Grill. We unknowingly visited during their reverse happy hour (all day on Sunday!) and got incredible deals. Yummy sushi rolls, shrimp and chicken lettuce wraps, blackened fish and spicy shrimp tacos, and more. Nice size portions and great taste, but what knocked it over the top was the excellent service received by our waiter - Kellis. He was attentive, friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu. He made several recommendations and made sure our drinks were always full. The AGM also stopped by the table and checked in. We will definitely be back. I came on Monday 4/20 and spent $80 on carryout sushi. I was excited to get home and eat it but what came was absolute disappointment. I didn't even receive one of my rolls and the rest were disgusting. One roll didn't even come with any of the sauce on it like it was supposed to and the rice on the rest was soggy. Needless to say, I didn't even eat most of it. I had one bite of each roll and threw the rest away. Waste of money and will not return.

I don't expect much from Kona Grill when it comes to rolls because they aren't a sushi restaurant! But the rolls were great for the price. For $6, you get two sliders and fries. They were super flavorful and more than enough for me to get full off! So that was perfect! The fondue came with soft pretzel bites and sliced Granny Smith apples. My only complaint was that the cheese got really clumpy bc it didn't stay hot. So we only had a bite or two before it was unappetizing. I also had a Cosmo. Tasted like a Cosmo should. Good reverse happy hour. Sunday is definitely the day to go. If you sit on the patio or bar area on sunday you get happy hour prices all day. 7 buck sake boms and six buck apps. The sliders are more od a meal than an app. So are the lettece wraps. Good Sunday funday spot and good sushi. Onky down side is on sundays they can be slammed . Check this place out if you havent. Normal people would assume a restaurant with an outdoor patio welcomes small, well-behaved dogs who stay in your lap. Don't make the mistake of going to Kona with your furry best friends. Pets are not welcome on their patio. They don't have a sign notifying customers of their policy so you won't know until the manager comes by to ask you to leave. At least the waiter was extremely nice, hence the star. I've seen dogs in Z Gallerie and other stores in Perkins Rowe. Oh well. Off to Red Zepplin where pups are always welcome!

My husband and I went here late night after an LSU game. We've been plenty of times before, and haven't had a bad experience. Kona is a mix of American food with an Asian flair, and then... sushi. It's not something you would normally see, but it works. Service has always been good, drinks are good, food is good. If you can sit outside on the patio, that's great for the atmosphere and people watching! You can also sit at the sushi bar if you're so inclined. The bar itself is small but usually service is fast. It's close to our house so on nights when we're not feeling inspired, Kona does the trick.

Mother's Day dinner for two: We sipped on a nice red blend wine and split the calamari. I have eaten calamari at many, many restaurants so I'm pretty much an expert. The calamari at Kona is delicious. It is a large, perfectly seasoned serving of plump squid pieces. I like there to be more squid than fry so this was perfect, very meaty. We split two entrees because we couldn't decided. (See photos) Penne pasta with shrimp. Oh-EM-Gee!! This was home and heaven in a bowl. It was creamy, but not too rich. The shrimp was fantastically seared, but not overcooked. I could eat my weight in this dish. Fresh Fish option for the day was sword fish. This was something new for us to try (which is why we ordered the pasta as a backup dish) and I must say, it was balanced really well. The fish, alone, was delicious. It did not taste "fishy", which was good because mom isn't a fan of the overpowering taste of fresh fish. It seemed to be grilled with a hint of lime which was perfect. The "direction" was to pour this house salsa on top of the fish but it definitely didn't need it. The fish alone, in it's simply glory, was good enough. I think the rice was cooked with coconut but that could just be my mind drifting off to a beach side dinner fantasy in a Caribbean paradise. The side of French green beans are always a safe bet with me. This is not the first time that I have eaten them from Kona (they come with the chicken) but, as always they are delicious and I could eat a huge bowl of them if they'd let me. Lastly, the white chocolate cheesecake. I believe that this is a new option. Now, I was a little "saucy" from the bottle of wine when I ate this so it may have tasted way better to me than it will to you but, it was delicious. Cheesecake is always a great safety net, isn't it? This whole meal came out to about $90 so, not terrible. The food quality was excellent so it seemed really reasonable to me. Our waitress was also fantastic. If I remember right, I tipped $10 on the bill and mom tipped $10 in cash. Like I said, we were a little "saucy" but she deserved it. She recommended everything and was very attentive. I wish that I had her name for this review. Side note: It was my mom's first time to eat here but it wasn't MY first rodeo at Kona. I wanted to take her to a "nice" place but she didn't want to get too "dressy" so I thought Kona would be perfect for the both of us. It is moderately noisy, maybe a little more on the noisy side, but we definitely didn't have a hard time hearing each other. The only downside to this particular dinner was that there were a few little gnats flying around. Kona leaves the doors open during the day, which I like. Eating on the patio next to the bar is awesome but... with open doors in Louisiana, you get bugs. It wasn't a major issue but we did have to swat away our two little friends every ten minutes.

We have eaten here several times. The atmosphere is awesome! We love eating outside! I have enjoyed the food every time. The Pad Thai noodles and the avocado chicken sandwich were both really great! My only complaint, as with most restaurants is there is no vegetable or anything really healthy offered for kids on the kids menu so my daughter's meal consists only of a cheese pizza there because that's what she always orders. Would love more veggies offered on the sides of the kids items! Love the fish tanks though!

This was my first time at Kona Grill. I had no expectations, good or bad. I went with an open mind and a big appetite. First impression, it was a Friday night and we had no wait. That was great. The service was really good. The food was brought out quickly. The atmosphere is fun. Upbeat music, but not too loud that we couldn't hold a conversation. This would be a great spot for drinks and appetizers. We ordered two signature entrees: macadamia nut chicken our signature dish, with parmesan garlic mashed potatoes and haricots verts, served with our shoyu-cream sauce and pineapple-papaya marmalade miso-saké marinated sea bass baked and served with shrimp & pork fried rice and grilled broccolini The chicken was amazing. It was so good that I found my girlfriend eating off of my plate more than hers. My only complaint was there needed to be more Pineapple-papaya marmalade because the two pieces of chicken were so big. It is definitely a dish big enough for two. The sea bass was very very tender, and a great dish as well. But the chicken was just the better dish for my liking. We finished dinner off with a brownie with I've cream on top. It was big enough to split between 6 people. Overall, this was a nice experience. We will be back. There are some mixed reviews on the sushi on yelp, but honestly, I probably wouldn't go here to eat sushi, as I'm picky on where I eat sushi. But there are a few other items on the menu I want to try. Prices weren't too bad. They are on par with other restaurants of this caliber. Not expensive, but not a place Chili's prices either. (Thankfully) We'll be back.

Bad sushi :( we went here last night for dinner and ordered spicy tuna sushi. It was not good- smelt fishy. I asked our waiter about it and he said "no one else has complained as far as I know" and left the sushi at my table. I have worked at restaurants for years and know- if a customer complains you apologize and remove the dish period. Anyway he came back 10 minutes later and said "yes others have complained, must be a bad batch." Yup like I said it's bad. Annoyed.. I was sick all night with bad starch cramps. Won't be back.

"I'll tell you everything you need to know if you can just make it stop." I want to give Kona an even 2.5 stars because the food is delicious, but enduring the atmosphere is nearly psychological torture. I come here every few weeks with my SO and each time it's the same: scrumptious food and a great wait staff, but it is paired with a dimly lit room, screeching noises coming from the bar, parties seated painfully close to each other, and the constant thump of godawful dance music. I can't relax at Kona. I am on edge the entire time. Turn the lights up and the music down.

Atlantic Roll: Baked salmon, spicy aioli, cucumber, tempura flakes, and eel sauce priced at $6.75. The roll tasted fine, but the consistency and texture was similar to that of canned tuna, which was not what I was expecting. I did not seemed to taste any of the spice from the aioli in it. Lobster Mac&Cheese: Penne pasta, cheddar, gouda, parmesan, panko, and white truffle oil priced at $15.50. When I asked the waitress how big the portion size was, she stated that it comes in a very large portion. Although the portion was not as big as she described, the dish was very delicious and contained large pieces of lobster. The creaminess of the three cheese sauce worked well with the panko breadcrumb topping, giving it a nice crunchiness. It was very filling! Kona Grill has a large variety and types of food, which makes it great for large groups, especially being located right across from the movie theater. It took our table a long time to order, since none of us could decide what we wanted with all of the choices. The service was slow, even though it was not particularly crowded. This was my first time at Kona, and I was excited to be trying it after hearing many good reviews from friends. Despite my first experience not being exactly up to par, I would definitely come back with the curiosity to try other menu options.

I can't say I have been to Kona too often other than during their Happy Hour, which is a great deal. Some of the rolls are a bit pricey in my opinion during regular pricing hours. But all of the times I have been to Kona have been great. The wait staff is enthusiastic and efficient. I really like the Bama roll without the cream cheese. The pot stickers, chicken satay, and avocado rolls are also delicious. I've also had a few items that are not on the happy hour menu that are definitely worth a try. The cucumber salad is a "must order" every time I go to Kona-- sometimes I'll order two of them since it is so tart and delicious on a hot day. The jalapeno yellowtail sashimi and tuna tower are also good. If you want sushi, but don't want a ton, I suggest getting the sushi sampler. You get several pieces of sushi and a roll plus the house salad. It's easy to fill up on just that. I also have to give serious props to the Manager at Kona. I have been once or twice when there was a wait for a bar/outside table (the happy hour prices are only available in those areas) during the happy hour, which two or three tables worth of people waiting around for a table. The Manager does a fantastic job of trying to keep track of when each table came so that the tables really are "first come/first serve" and customers don't have to work out amongst themselves who was there first and who gets the next table. You don't always see that at restaurants that have that kind of system, so it is great that the Manager goes the extra mile to make sure everything is running smoothly.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. I had the market fish feature, rainbow trout, and it was a little unexpected because it was served with a "Mediterranean salsa", but it worked. But, my review is more focused on the service. Our server Jenn was super attentive, great energy, gave us great suggestions and everything came out of the kitchen with perfect timing. My biggest complaint is the slow and forgetful service. The appetizers we ordered were all really good. We got potstickers, ahi tuna crisps, and lettuce wraps. Then came our main course...this is where the place fell off. The couple we were with ordered pad Thai and some kind of meatloaf dish. They were both disappointed. We ordered sushi. I do not recommend sushi here. It wasn't gross but it was really bland. They also have a bama roll on the menu...are they kidding? This is death valley and I'm still offended! Stopped in for lunch. There is definitely a random smell when you walk on. We ordered 3 sushi rolls and two bowls of tomato basil soup and a grilled cheese for our son. Soup arrived first, both bowls were filthy. You could see a ring that had dried around the top of one and the other had some smeared substance. The three rolls came out, they were average- however the guy who was back making them wiped his nose on the top of his hand. Pretty gross! Suggestions for Kona- get something for the kids to do while waiting such as crayons, tech toys etc, secondly run random unannounced hygiene checks on your staff and facility.

The food is normally good but I had a terrible experience the second time I came here and won't be coming back. The person I went to dinner with (a date from the internet) sent his food back after finding a bug crawling around in it. I was done eating so requested a box. The waitress took my food with her and boxed it up. She was gone a long time. I'm sure she spat in my food or it hit the ground a few times. I won't be coming back.

Sushi was fairly good, and at a decent price. I was bummed that their sake selection was so small, and that they didn't have green tea ice cream or uni. Really messed up my sushi routine! I would go back for the spider roll though. Fantastic

2 years ago one of the Kona Grill waitresses named Chloe didn't give me and my friends our change back and it was between $3-$5 taken from EACH of us! that's about $12 total. she totally avoided our table and the side of the room where we were giving us no chance to say anything about the missing change. we waited around for a while but nothing. so a few days later one of my friends that got their money taken as well, mother called and told the whole story and we were assured to be sent our money back and nothing ever got to us 2 years later! this wasn't the first or only time of me not getting my change back but it was the most memorable and most amount of money taken from me. I have been here many times have stopped going bc the workers try and take advantage of younger customers. anyways, id appreciate if I could get an apology or some of my money back ... 2 years later! Thank you and good day.
